About The Late Jack Stevens

Wichita County’s True Cowboy

Jack Stevens was born in 1934 in Thornberry, near Wichita Falls. He was the last of 14 kids. For some time, they lived by Holliday Creek in a 16×16 foot tent.

He always thanked God for helping him survive his early years. Him and his siblings lived alone, with once a month visits from his father to bring them supplies.

When Jack wasn’t trapping, fishing, or cooking, Jack drew. He couldn’t quit. It was something he loved doing and he would continue to do until 1970 when he opened up his studio.
